, The city of Daegu announced on the 29th that it will intensively identify and support at-risk youth who are struggling with family caregiving responsibilities. These individuals, known as ‘youth caring for families,’ are aged between 13 and 39 and are responsible for assisting with the daily lives of family members who cannot live independently or for covering part or all of the living expenses.
According to the city, from the 21st of this month until December 6th, a period of intensive identification is being carried out for these youths who face difficulties in education, personal development, and entering society due to their caregiving responsibilities. This is because there is a societal perception that taking care of one’s family is a natural duty, which often prevents those in need from seeking help.
The city plans to offer various forms of support to these at-risk youth, such as daily care assistance, living and housing support, medical support, personal development, and psychological counseling as needed. If anyone is aware of a youth struggling due to family caregiving or is in such a situation themselves, they can contact their local administrative welfare center or call 129 without an area code for consultation.
Jeong Ikwan, head of Daegu’s Health and Welfare Bureau, stated, “Daegu will actively find and support youths facing difficulties due to family caregiving responsibilities, ensuring that no one gives up on their future because of these burdens.”
