On December 14, following the passing of President Yoon Seok-yeol’s impeachment motion in the National Assembly, many posts have appeared on the Constitutional Court’s website, which is responsible for the impeachment trial.
As of 6 PM on the 15th, according to the legal community on the 16th, more than 2,000 posts related to the impeachment had been posted on the Constitutional Court’s online bulletin board. This is a significant increase compared to usual, where only one to three posts are made per day. On the day the impeachment motion passed, about ten posts appeared, and the following day saw a rapid surge in activity.
Most of the postings consist of public opinions for and against the impeachment, similar to watching the arguments from the National Assembly’s impeachment managers and the president’s defense team.
Some civic groups are also expected to express their opinions offline to the Constitutional Court. The progressive group Candlelight Action plans to hold candlelight cultural events in front of the Constitutional Court at 7 PM daily from the 16th until the impeachment trial concludes. Conservative groups are reportedly considering holding counter-protests in front of the Constitutional Court as well.
