Vietnamese woman in her 40s sentenced to 3 years for killing husband…”Crime committed under diminished mental capacity”

A Vietnamese woman in her 40s has been sentenced to three years in prison for stabbing her husband in his 50s to death with a weapon.

According to legal circles on the 21st, the Suwon District Court’s 11th Criminal Division, presided over by Judge Shin Jin-woo, sentenced A (40, Vietnamese nationality) to three years in prison for murder charges.

The court stated, “In this case, the defendant, who is of Vietnamese nationality, married the victim in 2008 and had two children. The defendant was living a family life, but started suffering from an unspecified non-organic psychosis since 2019, and then stabbed her spouse to death with a weapon without a special reason,” adding, “Murder is an extremely serious crime which cannot be remedied in any way, making severe punishment inevitable.”

However, the court explained the reasons for sentencing, stating, “The defendant acknowledged the crime and showed remorse, the crime appeared to have been committed impulsively while the defendant was in a diminished mental state, and it seems that the young children wish to continue living with the defendant.”

A was indicted for stabbing her husband B in the chest with a weapon for unknown reasons at their residence in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province last September, causing his death.

It was investigated that A was diagnosed with an “unspecified non-organic psychosis” in 2019 and received inpatient treatment, after which she mostly stayed at home and rarely engaged in social activities.

Her husband, the victim, worked in the freight transportation industry to support the family, and was also responsible for preparing meals and handling school notifications for their children.
