[Herald Economy (Uiseong) = Kim Byung-jin] Uiseong County in North Gyeongsang Province has been finally selected as a natural products development zone in a public contest for a ‘Green Bioindustry Development Zone’ in accordance with Article 15 of the Act on the Promotion of Green Bioindustry announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs.
According to Uiseong County on the 3rd, with this designation, Uiseong County will begin to establish an AI-based advanced natural products analysis district centered on the Uiseong Bio Valley General Industrial Complex.
The Green Bioindustry Development Zone is a system where local governments establish a whole cycle enterprise support system based on a hub that aggregates the capabilities of local businesses, universities, research institutions, and demonstration infrastructure.
Uiseong County plans to gather dispersed natural products research personnel, data, and equipment from various institutions into one place to create an efficient industrialization linkage system. For this purpose, a comprehensive research hub based on research, demonstration, and data will be established in the Uiseong Bio Valley.
In particular, following this selection, Uiseong County will actively promote a high-value natural products discovery system based on AI and in silico.
Through this project, Uiseong aims to improve the efficiency and accuracy of material discovery, shorten the development period, and minimize human error, laying the foundation to advance as a leading AI-based advanced natural products analysis base in the agro-food sector.
The designation as a development zone provides policy incentives such as ▲ eligibility to participate in infrastructure-related public projects under the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs’ Green Bioindustry ▲ additional benefits for various support projects for companies within the zone ▲ provision of special provisions for shared property, thereby promoting the attraction of natural products companies and linking research and industry infrastructure to establish a cyclical industrial ecosystem of enterprise agglomeration, demonstration, and commercialization.
Kim Joo-soo, Mayor of Uiseong County, stated, “Uiseong County being selected as a Green Bioindustry Development Zone is a result of the nation acknowledging the region’s potential and readiness,” and added, “We aim to become a leading natural products hub in North Gyeongsang centered on the AI-based advanced natural products analysis base, where companies congregate and innovation occurs.”
