A discount event is being held to promote ‘Ulsan Pedal’, a local public delivery service. Ulsan City announced on the 9th that it will provide a discount coupon of 10,000 won to users of Ulsan Pedal who place orders three times of 20,000 won or more per month.
This initiative is part of a nationwide project targeting public delivery apps, with a total of 6.5 million coupons being distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. The aim is to boost the sales of small businesses and lighten the burden of delivery fees by activating public delivery apps with commissions of 2% or less. The event will run from June 10 until the budget is exhausted.
Customers who order three times of more than 20,000 won via Ulsan Pedal will be automatically entered for the promotion. Coupons worth 10,000 won will be issued sequentially from the beginning of the following month. The discount coupon can be used from the fourth order onwards, with one coupon issued per person each month. Monthly participation is allowed based on individual usage.
In conjunction with this initiative, Ulsan City plans to carry out intensive promotions to expand Ulsan Pedal usage and secure more partner stores. Launched in March 2021, ‘Ulsan Pedal’ initially garnered much attention due to its policy of no order and payment fees for partner stores. However, a lack of a dedicated app and insufficient promotion have led to dwindling user numbers.
Order numbers, which stood at 66,473 in the first year, decreased to 53,220 in 2022, 30,533 in 2023, and 18,684 last year, marking a reduction of over 70% compared to the initial launch.
To activate public delivery apps, challenges such as low awareness, expansion of partner stores, and insufficient consumer benefits need to be addressed. To this end, Ulsan City integrated Ulsan Pay (a local currency) and Ulsan Pedal, which were previously managed by different entities, starting last month. An ongoing promotion gives users back up to 12% of their spending when using Ulsan Pay on Ulsan Pedal, adding 5% to the existing 7% return rate.
An official from Ulsan City stated, “We will invest 200 million won in promotional activities to step up our promotional efforts for activation.”
