The Gyeonggi Provincial Education Workers’ Union will go on a general strike tomorrow… The Office of Education is “responding to minimize inconvenience.”

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education announced that it has prepared an emergency operation plan to minimize disruptions to school meals and elementary care services in response to the scheduled general strike of educational support staff unions tomorrow (6th).

The office plans to utilize existing kitchen staff to modify or simplify menus if the strike participation rate is below 50%, and to provide alternative meals such as bread and milk if the participation rate is over 50%.

Elementary care, special education, and kindergarten after-school programs will be operated using in-house staff or non-striking employees.

The provincial education office issued related guidelines to all schools on the 26th of last month and will operate a response situation room until the strike concludes.

Kim Jae-soo, head of the labor-management cooperation division, stated, “We will focus our response on areas where student and parent inconvenience is expected to increase, such as school meals, care services, and special education.”
