“The ‘Chae Marine Corps Special Investigation Team’ sets up an office in Seocho-dong… ‘We will finalize the candidates today.'”

Special prosecutor Lee Myung-hyun, who is investigating allegations of external pressure in the case of a marine’s death, has selected an office building in Seocho-dong, Seoul for the investigation.

Today, on the 18th, Lee Myung-hyun met with reporters on his way to work and announced that an office has been set up in the White Wave Building in Seocho-dong, and a provisional contract has been signed.

He also mentioned that although the selection of assistant special prosecutors has not been finalized yet, it is expected to be completed within the day. He emphasized that the truth needs to be uncovered, so having passionate individuals is the top priority.

Regarding the delay in selecting assistant special prosecutors, he explained that people who understand the Defense Ministry’s organization and internal affairs are needed. However, the special prosecution law requires considering elements like political party affiliations, which is causing disqualification issues.

He further stated that once the selection of assistant special prosecutors is completed, discussions regarding the cooperation with investigative agencies such as the prosecution, police, and the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials and specific dispatch personnel will be conducted.
