After finishing school exams and trying to escape the heat by jumping into the sea, a middle school student drowned in an accident. On the afternoon of the 4th, around 2:04 PM, a middle school student known as A (14) was found in a state of cardiac arrest in the sea in front of a waterfront in Jugyo-dong, Mokpo, South Jeolla Province.
A was discovered about 30 meters away from the shore at a depth of 3.5 meters by the coast guard and firefighters who arrived after receiving a report. Despite being transferred to the hospital after being found within about 40 minutes, A did not survive.
It was reported that A and his friends had been playing in the sea near the waterfront after finishing their exams that day. However, it is uncertain whether A’s group was aware that swimming was prohibited in the area.
Although the waves were relatively calm on that day, the water near the shore was deep due to high tide occurring within two hours. The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, including obtaining witness statements from A’s friends who were with him during the incident.
