Suwon City Focuses on Attracting ‘Overseas Tourists’… Targets Visa-Free Chinese Market

[Suwon = Newsis] Reporter Park Jong-dae = The city of Suwon announced on the 8th that it will significantly strengthen overseas promotion of tourist resources centered around Suwon Hwaseong targeting Japan and the Greater China region until December.

Ahead of the 62nd Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival and other major autumn festivals, the city plans to focus its marketing efforts on China, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore, which are the top three countries in terms of foreign tourists visiting Korea.

In particular, with the allowance of visa-free entry for Chinese tourists starting from the 29th, the city aims to target the Greater China market more aggressively.

For the Greater China region, the city will post two short videos on Xiaohongshu, a Chinese local channel, and six short-form videos on influencers’ Instagram accounts in Taiwan and Singapore, catering to the trend of consuming short videos.

In the Japanese market, the city will run a promotional campaign using Instagram posts and the real-time broadcasting platform MixChannel. They plan to broadcast 15-second tourism videos 30 to 72 times a day on outdoor media in areas with high foot traffic, such as Shibuya in Tokyo and JR Hakata Station.

A city official stated, “With Chinese tourists now able to enter without a visa, we will strengthen our approach to the Chinese market,” and added, “We will continue to develop tourism content to encourage foreign tourists to visit Suwon.”
