“Special investigation into ‘President’s private jet civilian boarding controversy'”

**Kim Kun-hee Special Prosecutor Summons Han Hak-ja, President of the Unification Church, on the 29th**

The special prosecutor team investigating various allegations against Kim Kun-hee has confirmed that it is investigating Shin Mo, who boarded the presidential plane as a civilian on the 29th.

The special prosecutor’s office announced, “Today, we summoned Shin Mo, who boarded the presidential plane as a civilian, as a suspect for questioning.” It is reported that the investigation focuses on violations of passport laws.

Shin accompanied former President Yoon Seok-yeol and his wife to Madrid, Spain, during the NATO summit in June 2022. Despite being a civilian, Shin received an official passport as an “additional entourage” and returned on the presidential plane, which sparked controversy regarding preferential treatment outside official channels. Shin is the spouse of Lee Won-mo, who was the personnel secretary in the presidential office and is classified as a pro-Yoon figure due to his position during the Yoon administration.

On the same day, the special prosecutor is also expected to question Shin about allegations of embezzlement involving Jaseng Hanbang Bio. Jaseng Bio, an affiliate of Jaseng Oriental Medicine Hospital, was led by Shin, and there are suspicions that Shin’s family generated slush funds amounting to 9 billion won from May 2020 to April 2022.

Meanwhile, the special prosecutor also summoned Han Hak-ja, the president of the Unification Church, for questioning regarding allegations of “political collusion.” Han, who has been detained at the Seoul Detention Center since the 22nd, arrived at the special prosecutor’s office in the KT West Building in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, at 9:52 a.m. Han’s side stated, “Han is unable to take proper medication and exercise,” adding, “We requested a caregiver, but it was not accepted.”

The special prosecutor is expected to interrogate Han over allegations that the Unification Church registered about 120,000 members as party members of the People Power Party ahead of its 2023 national convention.
