[Sokcho = Newsis] Reporter Lee Soon-cheol = Sokcho City in Gangwon Province announced on the 12th that it has purchased liability insurance for the first time in the province to prepare for accidents that may occur during the social activities of individuals with developmental disabilities and to support a stable daily life.
Including this initiative, the city plans to expand policies tailored to encompass the overall lives of people with disabilities and their families with a total budget of 13.9 billion won in the disability support field by 2026.
The developmental disability liability insurance support project is implemented based on the Sokcho City ordinance for the insurance subscription and support of social activities for people with developmental disabilities.
The insurance started on the 1st, and in the event of an accident, the insurance claim will be processed directly through the insurance company.
The city plans to establish and operate the ‘Sokcho City Family Support Center for the Disabled’ to alleviate the care burden on families with disabilities and improve their quality of life.
Meanwhile, the ‘Sokcho City Comprehensive Welfare Center for the Disabled’, a long-cherished wish of local people with disabilities and their families, has completed construction and is undergoing various administrative procedures.
Mayor Lee Byung-sun stated, “The subscription to this developmental disability liability insurance, the first of its kind in the province, will be the most basic means for people with disabilities and their families to live comfortably and confidently in the community.”
