Prosecutors Request Arrest Warrant for ‘Geonjin Buddhist Monk’ on Charges of Violating Political Funds Act

“The prosecution has requested an arrest warrant for Jeon Mo, a shaman known as ‘Geonjin Beopsa,’ who is reportedly close to President Yoon Seok-yeol and his wife.

The Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office announced today that they have requested an arrest warrant for Jeon, who was detained on charges of violating the Political Funds Act.

Jeon is suspected of receiving large sums of illegal political funds from politicians in the Yeongcheon area of Gyeongbuk, including candidates who participated in the Liberty Korea Party’s primary during the 2018 local elections, under the pretext of helping them win.

This case came to light during the investigation of the so-called ‘Yonsama Coin’ fraud case, which involved actor Bae Yong-joon’s investment participation. During this process, evidence of Jeon’s illegal political fund transactions was discovered.

According to the prosecution, Jeon allegedly received money as prayer fees for primary election victory and claimed to have returned the money after the candidate lost.

Previously, the prosecution arrested Jeon yesterday and conducted searches and seizures at his residence in Seocho-gu and a temple in Gangnam-gu, also confiscating his mobile phone for analysis.

Jeon was reportedly active in 2022 with a business card listing advisory roles with the Network Headquarters under then-presidential candidate Yoon Seok-yeol’s campaign and Kim Geon-hee’s Kobana Contents.

Jeon’s warrant review is scheduled to be held at 10:30 AM tomorrow at the Seoul Southern District Court.”
