The police plan to apply for the fourth arrest warrant for Kim Seong-hoon, Deputy Director of the Presidential Security Service, today (the 17th). A representative from the Special Investigation Division of the National Police Agency’s Investigation Bureau stated during a briefing that they are finalizing the application documents and expect to submit them this afternoon.
The representative mentioned that since the arrest warrant was dismissed three times, they have conducted the necessary supplementary investigation and meticulously revised the documents while also coordinating with the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials.
The police also intend to reapply for an arrest warrant for Lee Kwang-woo, Director of the Security Headquarters, this afternoon.
Previously, Deputy Director Kim and Director Lee, categorized as hardliners within the Security Service, were accused of obstructing the execution of an arrest warrant for President Yoon Seok-yeol.
Initially, the police applied for arrest warrants for Deputy Director Kim three times and for Director Lee twice, but the prosecution dismissed them each time for various reasons, leading to controversy. In response, the special investigation division requested a review of the warrants on the 24th of last month, and the Seoul High Prosecutors’ Office Committee agreed on the 6th that it was appropriate for the prosecution to issue arrest warrants, siding with the police.
