The government is urging the return of medical residents who have been on collective leave for three months, but the residents have raised their voices demanding “quick dismissal processing.”
In a situation where the sense of duty as a medical resident has been stripped away, there seems to be no reason to continue their residency. They question whether it makes sense for the government to not process their dismissals and even block them from opening general practices.
It was mentioned that there is a growing atmosphere of tolerating the return of medical residents who are inevitably forced to return due to financial difficulties.
Some medical residents have reported engaging in private tutoring, hospital administrative jobs, delivery part-time work, etc., due to financial difficulties.
As the situation of the mass resignation of medical residents has continued for over three months, it has been revealed that there are over 1,600 residents who have applied for financial support while appealing for financial difficulties.
According to the Korean Medical Association, as of yesterday (21st), a total of 1,646 medical residents have applied for emergency livelihood support funds.
The association explained that they plan to provide emergency livelihood support funds of 1 million won per person after reviewing the difficult situations faced by medical residents.
Previously, medical residents started collectively resigning from February 19, claiming that the government’s policy of increasing medical school admissions is not valid.
