Military police officer of field-grade rank arrested after running over a police officer and fleeing 5 km during a DUI checkpoint.

A high-ranking military police officer was apprehended after driving under the influence and injuring a police officer in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. The officer, identified as A, attempted to flee during a sobriety checkpoint but was captured and handed over to military authorities.

According to the Hwaseong Western Police Station, A, who is affiliated with an Army division’s military police, was arrested on November 25th on charges of obstructing official duties and violating the Road Traffic Act (DUI). On the night of November 24th, around 8:25 PM, A allegedly fled approximately 5 kilometers from a commercial area in Bongdam-eup, Hwaseong, without complying with a sobriety check.

A further attempted to escape by hitting officer B, who was trying to open the passenger side door after a patrol car blocked A’s way, causing minor injuries to B’s hands and knees.

The police managed to apprehend A, and a breathalyzer test revealed that his blood alcohol content was at a level warranting license revocation. Upon confirming A’s military status, the police transferred him to military custody early the next morning. A police representative mentioned that since A is a military personnel, the investigation will be conducted by the military.
