Mayor Park Hyung-joon visited Renault Korea and pledged to support the future car project.

[Financial News] Park Heong-joon, the mayor of Busan, has begun on-site activities to support Renault Korea’s future car projects, including the production of the Polestar 4.

The city of Busan announced that on the morning of the 7th, Mayor Park visited the Renault Korea factory in Gangseo-gu, Busan, to inspect the electric vehicle production facilities.

This visit was organized to recognize Renault Korea’s effort in its pioneering transition from an internal combustion engine factory to an electric vehicle plant, the first case among domestic automakers, and to discuss cooperative measures as they prepare for a leading role in the global electric vehicle market.

Renault Korea’s Busan factory temporarily halted operations in January for the installation of facilities for mass electric vehicle production and resumed operations in February. They are set to commence mass production of the Polestar 4 electric vehicle in the second half of the year, with plans to export to regions including the Americas.

Based on this investment, if future car projects are attracted, large-scale investments at the headquarters level are projected.

On this day, Mayor Park met with Stephane Deblaise, CEO of Renault Korea, to listen to investment difficulties and discuss regional reinvestment.

Additionally, they celebrated the launch of the mid-size SUV Grand Koleos, which sold 22,000 units within four months of production as Renault Korea’s first global project, and examined support measures for the successor models Aurora 2 and Aurora 3, along with the establishment of the Busan Eco Cluster scheduled for the end of the year.

The city plans to implement various support measures, such as field-customized administrative support and win-win cooperation projects, to help Renault Korea establish itself as a center for the future automotive industry.

Earlier, in July of last year, as the city’s first Chief Officer of One-Stop Business Support, Mayor Park accepted suggestions during a visit to the Renault Korea site and changed the name of a 2.4 km road section near the Busan factory from Renault Samsung Avenue to Renault Avenue.

Mayor Park stated, “Renault Korea is the number one company in Busan, and the transition to electric vehicle production is an important opportunity to innovate the regional economy and create new growth engines.” He continued, “The city will spare no effort to provide the optimal environment for businesses to grow and innovate.”
