In Gwangmyeong City, Gyeonggi Province, multiple reports have been filed with the police regarding unauthorized small transactions made via mobile phones during the early morning. The Gwangmyeong Police Station announced today (4th) that they had received numerous complaints about these unauthorized small transactions occurring via mobile phones during the early morning hours.
One victim residing in Gwangmyeong City reported to KBS during a phone call that on August 27 at around 6:50 a.m., a small transaction of 495,000 won was made via mobile payment from their phone, yet they did not receive any notification of the transaction, and their KakaoTalk was logged out.
As of now, 26 victims have been reported to the police, all of whom are KT communication subscribers living in Sohol-dong, Gwangmyeong City. The victims experienced these unauthorized transactions from August 27 to 31, where various transactions, including mobile gift voucher purchases, were made during the early morning hours.
The Gyeonggi Southern Police Agency has taken over the investigation from the Gwangmyeong Police Station this afternoon and is currently investigating the case. KT stated that they are actively cooperating with the police investigation.
