“Kumho Tire’s Gwangju Factory Resumes Production 6 Months After Fire; Safety Training and Equipment Provided”

The Kumho Tire Gwangju plant, which ceased operations due to a fire accident last May, is beginning to normalize its operations. Starting from the 14th, the plant will produce 4,000 units per day, with plans to gradually increase this number to 6,000 units by early next year, and eventually to 10,000 units. On the 13th, Kumho Tire provided safety training and equipment like safety shoes to 386 production workers at the Gwangju plant. The company and its labor union signed an agreement on factory operations during the “2025 Employment Stability and Labor-Management Joint Development Committee” meeting.

As production scales up, additional workers will receive separate safety training. A representative from Kumho Tire stated that the reopening of the Gwangju plant will proceed alongside the construction of a new plant in Hampyeong, emphasizing that the company prioritizes employment stability and employee safety during this normalization process.

Previously, on May 17, a fire occurred when a spark ignited an oven device in the refining process at the Gwangju plant, resulting in 50-60% of the production facilities at Gwangju Plant 2 being damaged.
