Korea Meteorological Administration “This summer, it is expected to be hotter and rainier than normal.”

, ‘The forecast is that this summer will be hotter than usual and there will be a lot of rain.’,

The Korea Meteorological Administration announced its ‘3-month summer forecast’ from June to August starting today (23rd).

There is a 50% probability that the temperatures in June and August will be higher than the usual, while in July, the probabilities of being similar or higher than the usual are 40% each.

The Korea Meteorological Administration pointed out that the sea surface temperatures in the tropical Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and the North Atlantic Ocean have been higher than the usual spring temperatures, and noted the decreased snow cover in Europe compared to the usual. This contributes to the increased likelihood of warm southern winds in South Korea.

The Korea Meteorological Administration explained that the abundant snow cover in the Tibetan region compared to the usual can be a variable that lowers temperatures in South Korea.

There is a 50% probability that the rainfall in June will be similar to the usual, while in July and August, the probabilities of being similar or more than usual are 40% each.

The Korea Meteorological Administration analyzed that the high sea surface temperatures in the Indian Ocean and the North Atlantic Ocean, considered as the cause of the summer heat, will increase the inflow of water vapor near South Korea.

The Korea Meteorological Administration predicted that the number of typhoons affecting South Korea will be similar or fewer compared to the average of 2.5 typhoons during the summer season.
