[Jeju=Newsis] Reporter Oh Young-jae = Jeju Province announced on the 5th that from the 6th to the 7th, it will conduct special inspections to ensure the safety and prevent wage arrears of construction workers in the province ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
This inspection will be carried out jointly with related organizations such as the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency and the Korea Specialized Construction Association, targeting four major construction sites in the province.
Other sites will be inspected independently by the departments responsible for ordering and permitting.
The main inspection areas include ▲ deployment of site technicians ▲ safety management ▲ quality management and testing/inspection ▲ unfair practices and subcontract agreements in four categories.
During the Lunar New Year holiday, there will be a particular focus on checking for delayed payments, including subcontract payments, material and equipment payments, and workers’ wages.
Illegal subcontracting activities, such as bulk and resubcontracting, will also be checked.
The province plans to immediately correct minor violations found during the inspections on-site and to halt construction for sites with safety risks for improvement measures.
In the case of significant violations, strong administrative actions such as business suspension, fines, and bidding restrictions will be enforced.
Yang Chang-hwon, director of the provincial Construction and Housing Bureau, stated, “We will do our best to ensure not only safety but also a fair construction environment through continuous on-site inspections.”
