“‘Impersonating Soldiers’ Causes No-Show Damages to Restaurants in Chungju… 5 Cases in a Month”

In Chungju, North Chungcheong Province, restaurants have been experiencing ‘no-show’ incidents where individuals place large group orders and then cut off contact. The city authorities have sent cautionary text messages to 4,650 restaurants to alert them of the situation. Recently, perpetrators have been impersonating military personnel to order around 50 servings of food and then fail to show up, leading to financial losses for the restaurants. The damage per restaurant is estimated at 400,000 to 500,000 won. The police are investigating five such cases reported in the past month. The police have advised that asking for an advance payment when taking group orders could help prevent these no-show cases.
