The Korea Clean Hydrogen Promotion Institute (K-CHPI), established to enhance the technological competitiveness of the domestic hydrogen industry, has opened in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province.
According to Pyeongtaek City on the 19th, the K-CHPI is a non-profit foundation established with approval from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in December last year. It is responsible for the construction and operation of the “Clean Hydrogen Demonstration Support Center.”
The Clean Hydrogen Demonstration Support Center is a facility created to support R&D and workforce training related to hydrogen. A total of 48 billion won, including 30 billion won in national funding, is being invested, and it is expected to be established in the Pyeongtaek Brain City General Industrial Complex by 2026. The establishment of K-CHPI and the construction of the Clean Hydrogen Demonstration Support Center in Pyeongtaek are part of the “Clean Hydrogen Test Evaluation and Demonstration Support Infrastructure Construction Project,” which was selected in a Ministry of Industry competition in October 2023.
K-CHPI will undertake various tasks to enhance the competitiveness of the domestic hydrogen industry by utilizing the Clean Hydrogen Demonstration Support Center for research and development and professional workforce training. It also plans to support companies in achieving RE100 (100% renewable energy) and expanding globally.
Additionally, K-CHPI will play the role of command center for the hydrogen convergence cluster being established in Pyeongtaek, contributing to energy transition and the creation of an eco-friendly industrial ecosystem, as well as attracting clean hydrogen-related companies.
Pyeongtaek Mayor Jeong Jang-seon stated, “The K-CHPI will play a central role in enhancing the technological competitiveness of the domestic hydrogen industry and supporting corporate research and development. We will continue to cooperate closely with Gyeonggi-do, the government, research institutes, and companies to support the creation of a clean hydrogen industrial ecosystem and the realization of RE100.” Meanwhile, the opening ceremony of K-CHPI was held on the same day at the KOTITI Testing and Research Institute in Galhyeon-dong, Gwacheon City.
