Heavy snow warnings have been issued for Gangwon and Gyeongbuk, leading to the cancellation of 2 flights and grounding 77 passenger ferries.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety has activated Level 1 of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters due to heavy snowfall and rain across the country, continuing until the morning. A record 48.7 cm of snow has accumulated in Goseong, Gangwon Province. Heavy snow warnings have been issued in several areas, including the Chungbuk, Gyeongbuk, and Gyeonggi regions. As a result of the weather conditions, two flights at Gimpo Airport have been canceled, along with passenger vessels on routes such as Mokpo to Hongdo.

The Korea Meteorological Administration predicts that snow and rain will persist nationwide until morning, and continue through the night in areas like Gangwon, Jeolla, and Gyeongsang. Notably, heavy snowfall warnings are in effect in Gangwon and Gyeongbuk, while heavy snow advisories cover multiple regions including Chungbuk, Daegu, and Ulleungdo.

Significant snowfall has been recorded in several areas: Goseong with 48.7 cm, Sokcho with 29.9 cm, Inje with 28.3 cm, and Uljin, Gyeongbuk with 22.0 cm. Meanwhile, Bonghwa, Gyeongbuk has received 43.9 mm of rain, and similar rainfall amounts have been observed in Sejong and Chungju.

In response to these weather conditions, numerous precautionary measures have been implemented. Public transit has been affected, with multiple parks and roads closed due to the storm. Despite the severe weather, no official reports of facility or human casualties have been made. Emergency services have been actively working, handling several incidents of vehicle isolation and traffic accidents.

The acting Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, in light of the expected continuation of snow, has urged thorough preparedness and active efforts by related agencies to prevent public inconvenience and casualties during the holiday period. Measures include deploying snow removal resources and keeping emergency supplies ready for potential traffic congestion. Additionally, inspections have been heightened for vulnerable structures such as greenhouses and aging plants, with preparations for possible evacuations.

Nationwide alerts and disaster messages have been issued, ensuring public safety and awareness. The government pledges to mobilize all resources for effective response, urging citizens to adhere to safety guidelines.
