Actor Jung Woo-sung recently revealed that he has a biological son with model Moon Ga-bi, despite not being married. In response, Democratic Party lawmaker Lee So-young expressed her support. Lee criticized the excessive public interest, stating, “The idea that parents must remain married for the child’s sake can be a ‘bias’.”
She further explained, “Deciding to live with someone is a profoundly existential decision. The notion that having a child together necessitates marriage and living as a couple with obligations towards each other feels suffocating.”
Lee continued, “In a society where it’s acceptable and respected for married couples with children to divorce, can a man and woman who have a child but choose not to marry be criticized? Is it okay if they get married first and then divorce?”
She also shared her personal family story, revealing, “My parents divorced when I was very young, and I grew up without any memories of my father and without him taking any parental responsibilities.” Lee emphasized the importance of respecting individual circumstances and embracing diverse family structures, questioning if she would have been happier had her unloving parents stayed together without divorcing.
Jung Woo-sung himself has remained silent, with only his agency having released a statement. It is also reported that he is reconsidering his participation in the upcoming Blue Dragon Film Awards scheduled for the 29th.
