‘Handing a drink box to the principal and vice principal…turns out it was a bundle of money?’

A teacher in his 40s, Mr. A, from Gangwon province was fined for violating the Anti-Corruption and Bribery Prohibition Act, for attempting to deliver 1 million won in cash inside a beverage box to the principal and vice principal of a new school where he was transferring. According to legal sources on the 30th, the Yeongwol Branch of Chuncheon District Court sentenced 42-year-old Mr. A, who was charged with violating the Anti-Corruption and Bribery Prohibition Act, to a fine of 3 million won and imposed a confiscation fine of 3.04 million won. Mr. A is accused of visiting the principal, Mr. B, at a high school in Gangwon Province in March of last year, and trying to deliver a beverage box containing 1 million won in cash, saying, “I’m transferring from another school and haven’t been able to teach well, I’ll work hard.” He is also accused of visiting the vice-principal, Mr. C, in late March and early April of the same year and leaving a beverage box containing 1 million won in cash on the table with a similar message. Mr. A’s crime was discovered when bundles of cash were found during the process of distributing the drinks to the students from the beverage box. It was confirmed that the principal and vice principal immediately returned the cash upon its discovery in the beverage box. The court stated, “Considering the amount and frequency of money the defendant intended to provide, the nature of the offense is not good. Taking into account the fact that the principal and vice principal, who were offered the money by the defendant, did not accept it and returned it immediately, the court decided on the sentence.”
