Government: “Remains of 179 Victims of Jeju Air Disaster Have Been Returned”

**”Support Continues After Funerals… Preparing to Establish Support Organization”**

Gokidong Acting Minister Presides Over Countermeasure Meeting on Aircraft Accident (Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Choi Jae-gu – Gokidong, the acting Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, chaired the 11th meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters regarding the Jeju Air passenger plane accident in the situation room of the Government Complex in Seoul, Jongno-gu on the 6th.

(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Sang-seo – Gokidong, the acting Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, announced on the 6th that the handover of the remains of 179 victims from the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster to their families is expected to be completed today.

In the ’11th Meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for the Jeju Air Passenger Plane Accident’ held on this day, Acting Minister Go noted, “The on-site recovery and search operations are in their final stage,” and expressed deep gratitude to the bereaved families for their understanding and cooperation in this difficult situation.

He continued, “We will continue to provide support without interruption even after the funerals,” and emphasized, “We are preparing to establish a dedicated support organization to maintain communication with families who have returned home and to offer ongoing support as needed.”

Regarding malicious online posts defaming the victims and their families, he stated, “The National Police Agency is investigating a total of 126 malicious posts, with one arrest, five cases executed with search warrants, and 51 warrant applications, speeding up the investigations.”

The government explained that, in response to the Jeju Air disaster raising awareness about flight safety, a special safety inspection is being conducted on 101 aircraft from six airlines operating the same model as the accident aircraft.

Acting Minister Go further elaborated, “We have completed comprehensive checks on maintenance history and inspection times, and are examining pilot training conditions and situation reporting systems,” adding, “We are also conducting special inspections of navigation safety facilities around runways at airports nationwide.”
