Cement Sector Selected for Public Contest
Expansion to Semiconductors, Bio, and More
Gangwon Province announced on the 21st that it plans to actively promote “AI Autonomous Manufacturing” in line with government policies.
Previously, the government established a new industrialization policy for the AI era last May and announced the first task, the “AI Autonomous Manufacturing Strategy 1.0.” As part of this initiative, up to 10 billion won will be supported for 200 companies by 2028 to encourage AI autonomous manufacturing.
In this context, Gangwon Province secured 3.5 billion won in national funding through a public contest for the cement manufacturing sector with companies like Sampyo Cement. The project aims to develop a cement autonomous manufacturing model and maximize greenhouse gas reduction, energy efficiency, and production efficiency.
Furthermore, Gangwon Province plans to introduce autonomous manufacturing processes in advanced industries such as semiconductors, bio-health, and future mobility. They aim to select up to 10 companies for the contest next year.
Kim Jin-tae, the Governor of Gangwon Province, stated, “We will continue to discover semiconductor, bio-health, and future mobility companies capable of AI autonomous manufacturing,” adding that, “we will focus on nurturing AI as a key industry in response to the paradigm shift in industry.”
