Former Seoul Deputy Mayor Kang Cheol-won, Prosecutors Interview Him as a Witness Regarding ‘Myung Tae-kyun Allegations’

On the 10th, former Deputy Mayor of Seoul for Political Affairs, Kang Chul-won, will appear at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office regarding the case of political broker Myung Tae-kyun. According to Seoul City, Kang and Political Affairs Adviser Park Chan-gu will attend as witnesses and complainants to be questioned by the Myung Tae-kyun special investigation team at the prosecutor’s office.

Lee Jong-hyun, the Special Communication Adviser for Public Welfare in Seoul, stated, “We plan to clearly disclose the truth regarding Myung Tae-kyun’s false claims and clarify that after confirming the fraudulent polling methods by Myung at the campaign level, we severed ties with him.”

Prosecutors are investigating allegations that during the 2021 Seoul mayoral by-election, the Future Korea Institute, secretly owned by Myung, conducted 13 undisclosed public opinion polls related to Mayor Oh Se-hoon, and businessman Kim Han-jung, known as a supporter of Mayor Oh, transferred 33 million KRW for these polls.

Former Deputy Mayor Kang was the director of Oh Se-hoon’s election campaign during the 2021 by-election. After meeting with Myung, Kang reportedly pointed out problems with the polls and had a major conflict with him during the process.

Mayor Oh’s camp has denied any connection with Myung, calling the allegations “baseless,” and has urged for a swift investigation after filing a complaint against Myung with the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office last December.
