On the 18th, Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province appointed Park Neung-hoo, former Minister of Health and Welfare, as the new chairman of the Provincial Government Advisory Committee, a policy advisory body, and presented him with an appointment certificate. This appointment follows the resignation of the former chairman, Jeon Hae-cheol (a former member of the National Assembly), who stepped down on June 30, a year before his term was due to end.
Park Neung-hoo, the new chairman of the advisory committee, served as the 53rd Minister of Health and Welfare during the Moon Jae-in administration (2017-2020) and is currently a professor specializing in social welfare at Kyonggi University. He also serves as the chairman of the Gyeonggi Research Institute.
Chairman Park will be responsible for advising on key provincial policies, checking implementation statuses, suggesting improvements, planning new policies, and developing strategies.
The Provincial Government Advisory Committee is a policy advisory organization that meets monthly for regular discussions to address issues in Gyeonggi Province. It consists of the chairman and 21 experts from central government and academia, with extensive knowledge and experience.
Notable members include Lee Tae-ho, advisor at law firm Gwangjang and former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs; Min Seung-kyu, distinguished professor of Plant Life and Environmental Science at Hankyong National University and former Vice Minister of Agriculture and Forestry; Kang Chan-su, former co-representative of the Korea Federation for Environmental Movements and former environmental journalist at JoongAng Ilbo; and Lee Jeong-cheol, director of Seoul National University’s Center for Peace and Unification Studies.
Gyeonggi Province plans to develop precise, actionable strategies based on the committee’s advice and to translate proposed ideas into tangible outcomes that improve residents’ lives. The province intends to quickly appoint new members to replace recently resigned advisory members, forming a new lineup.
