The special prosecutor team investigating allegations of stock manipulation involving Sambu Construction is now also looking into suspicions surrounding the Ukraine visit by former President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife.
The team plans to summon former Foreign Minister Park Jin, who served during the Ukraine visit, for questioning at 2 p.m. today (the 4th). The prosecutors aim to examine the circumstances and procedures under which the former President and his wife, during their trips to Lithuania and Poland in July 2023, made an unplanned visit to Ukraine.
The stock price of Sambu Construction, which signed a memorandum of understanding after attending the ‘Ukraine Reconstruction Forum,’ reached its highest level following the visit by the former President and his wife to Ukraine.
The special prosecutor is suspicious that the change in the travel itinerary might have been influenced by the former President, his wife, or their close associates, often referred to as the ‘unofficial line.’ They are also investigating whether proper diplomatic clearance was obtained for entering Ukraine, which was a travel-restricted country at the time.
