[Reporter] Yes, according to YTN’s findings, evidence suggests that AI-assisted cheating also took place last year.
The course at the center of this controversy is Yonsei University’s online general course “Natural Language Processing and Chat GPT.”
It has been identified that the same professor conducted this course in the second semester of last year.
Looking at the course evaluations from last semester, there are signs of previous cheating.
Comments such as “I felt the greatness of GPT during exams,” and “I attended the class for 30 minutes but received an A+,” were noted.
Professor A reportedly announced that the academic office warned him about the high grades achieved by many students.
It will be interesting to see if a full investigation of last year’s situation will be conducted for fairness reasons.
So far, how many students have confessed to cheating?
Yonsei University has disclosed that about 40 students out of the 600 participants have admitted to cheating.
However, the internal investigation suggests that an additional 10 students are suspected of cheating but have not confessed yet.
The midterm exam results have been announced for about 540 students, but those suspected of cheating have not received their scores.
Previously, a poll posted on the university’s online board revealed that about 190 students confessed to cheating.
Professor A, who is in charge of the course, emphasized that cheating will not be tolerated, stating that caught students will receive a score of zero.
Furthermore, the professor warned that if students continue to deny cheating despite having the opportunity to confess, disciplinary actions such as temporary suspension will be pursued according to school regulations.
Yonsei University stated that it would consider disciplinary actions if cheating by students who have not confessed is confirmed.
This has been reported from the social department.
