Daejeon City has announced that Dunsan District and Songchon District have been selected as areas for urban redevelopment and reconstruction, with plans available for public viewing. The “2035 Daejeon Urban Redevelopment Basic Plan (draft)” includes areas that have been completed for more than 20 years and are over 1 million square meters in size. Dunsan District, completed in 1994 and spanning approximately 8.67 million square meters, aims to become a sustainable mixed-use city with a focus on work-life balance, maintaining its status as an administrative and business hub, expanding parks, and enhancing child-friendly infrastructure.
The floor area ratio in Dunsan will be increased from 226% to 360%, with 17 special maintenance zones set, including 15 for residential complex renovation. Songchon District, comprised of Jungni (completed in 1987), Beopdong (completed in 1992), and Songchon (completed in 1999), covers about 2.72 million square meters. It envisions becoming a “smart city of health in everyday life,” strengthening Daedeok-gu’s regional central functions, and incorporating eco-friendly living spaces connected to Gyejoksan and the surrounding villages.
The draft plan can be viewed until December 19 at the city’s urban planning office or online, followed by consultations with relevant departments and submission to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport next May. After approval, redevelopment projects will commence, with 15-18% of each district’s designated redevelopment area chosen as leading zones, focusing initially on 7,500 units in Dunsan and 3,000 in Songchon. The leading zones will be selected based on community involvement, urgency of residential environment improvement, necessity of urban function revitalization, and overall impact. Submissions for this process will be accepted from March 30 to April 3, 2026, with final selection slated for June 2026.
