Doctors, brokers, and patients who diagnosed fake tumors and collected insurance payouts were caught in a police sweep.
The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency’s detective unit announced the arrest of a hospital director in his 40s, identified as A, and two brokers in their 50s on charges of insurance fraud and violation of medical laws.
They are accused of collaborating with patients diagnosed with breast tumors to create false medical records that exaggerated the number of tumors, thereby embezzling 1 billion KRW in indemnity insurance payouts.
The police are also investigating around a hundred patients who used the insurance money from the fraudulent claims for cosmetic or beauty procedures.
