“Detective, thank you”… Chilling words from a man in his 60s who killed his younger brother.

In a bizarre courtroom scene, a man in his 60s on trial for allegedly beating his younger brother to death extended a thank you to the detective who initially investigated the case as a mere suicide. The detective, referred to as Inspector B, appeared as a witness during the trial. He admitted to regrets over his insufficient investigation, despite an autopsy suggesting a suspicious death and failing to properly interview critical witnesses like a neighbor captured on CCTV.

Initially concluding the case as “insufficient evidence” after a year, Inspector B’s inadequate investigation process was laid bare during the hearing. The accused, referred to as Mr. A, surprisingly thanked Inspector B despite claiming innocence. Mr. A is accused of returning home intoxicated and severely assaulting his late 50s brother on June 3, 2022, resulting in the brother’s death.

The prosecution, uncovering the critical witness during a re-investigation prompted by the prosecution’s directive, charged Mr. A with involuntary manslaughter and sought a 15-year sentence. Mr. A’s defense argued that he merely found his deceased brother and called emergency services while highlighting his mental illness and history of self-harm, pleading for acquittal due to unresolved doubts about the crime. Consequently, Inspector B and Corporal C, involved in the initial investigation, faced disciplinary actions.
