“The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 18th that it will hold a memorial event with the bereaved families’ association ahead of the first anniversary of the Jeju Air plane crash, which claimed 179 lives last year.”

“The memorial event, titled ‘Remember 12·29’, aims to commemorate the victims and console the bereaved families, while also pledging to uncover the truth of the disaster and prevent the recurrence of aviation safety accidents.”

“The official memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on the 29th, the day of the tragedy, at Muan International Airport, with about 1,200 attendees, including government officials, members of the National Assembly, bereaved families, participants in the accident recovery, and the general public. A memorial siren will sound for one minute from 9:03 a.m., the time of the incident, in the Gwangju and South Jeolla regions.”

“Prior to the official memorial service, a ‘National Citizens’ Memorial Rally’ will be held at 2 p.m. on the 20th in front of Bosingak, Seoul, with bereaved families and citizens gathering to honor the victims. ‘The Night of Bereaved Families’ event, intended to offer comfort and healing to the bereaved, will take place on the 24th at Muan International Airport, and a ‘Night of Remembrance’ event will be held at the same location on the 28th. Digital memorial altars to honor the victims will also be operated at major airports, railway stations, and local government offices nationwide from the 22nd to the 29th.”

“Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yoon-duk stated, ‘This memorial event starting on the 20th is a time to remember those we have lost and to renew our commitment to what we must do,’ adding, ‘We will prepare the memorial event with the bereaved families and related institutions to make it a space for reflection and resolve, beyond mourning and remembrance.'”
