Up to 63 Million Won for Marriage Through Single Men and Women Meeting Events
(Busan=Yonhap News) Reporter Son Hyeong-joo = In response to regional depopulation, the Saha District of Busan is actively hosting meeting events for single men and women and offering generous support to those who get married.
On the 7th, the Saha District announced that it is recruiting participants for the ‘Exciting Saha Bridge’ meeting event for singles.
The district plans a total of six meeting events this year, with the first and second round participants being recruited until the 23rd of this month.
The first round will have 24 participants on Gadeokdo Island, and the second round will have 20 participants on Eulsukdo Island.
The district also plans to hold events targeting public institution employees and foreigners.
The ‘Exciting Saha Bridge’ is a part of the population policy aimed at overcoming the crisis of low birthrate and regional depopulation.
Last year, a pilot event was held, resulting in 7 matches, although none have yet led to marriage.
Qualifications for participation include unmarried men and women aged 23 to 43, with men required to have lived or worked in Saha-gu for more than one year and women required to have resided in Busan for more than one year.
Participants are selected through document screening and individual interviews.
If a couple is formed through the event, each person will receive a dating subsidy of 500,000 won.
Couples who proceed to marriage will receive 1 million won per couple for marriage meeting expenses.
Additional benefits include a 50% discount on public institution parking for three years and support for cultural and art usage fees.
Based on income, couples will also receive differentiated marriage congratulatory money, housing expenses, childbirth congratulatory money, and travel subsidies.
Couples with incomes below 120% of the median income will receive 20 million won in marriage congratulatory money, 30 million won in jeonse (lease) deposit, 3 million won in childbirth congratulatory money, and 10 million won in travel support.
Those with higher incomes will receive reduced support amounts.
The district plans to draft detailed regulations to prevent fraudulent claims and clarify the basis for support.
A Saha-gu official explained, “Once detailed rules for the payment of support are established, the amount of support may vary.”
