On the 11th, a memorial altar for Kim Ha-neul (8), a victim of the Daejeon elementary school murder case, was set up at a funeral home in Seo-gu, Daejeon. Daejeon Police Agency announced on the 11th that an arrest warrant and a search and seizure warrant for the teacher had been issued. Consequently, the police plan to secure the teacher’s custody once she recovers from surgery and is stabilized in the intensive care unit.
Previously, Daejeon Western Police, investigating the case, received medical advice to observe the patient’s condition for 48 hours post-surgery but expressed their intention to continue the investigation promptly. With the issuance of the search warrant, the police plan to secure the teacher’s vehicle, residence, mobile phone, and hospital treatment records.
On the morning of the 11th, letters and chrysanthemums left by citizens were placed at the elementary school in Seo-gu, Daejeon, where a first-grade girl was murdered. Through further investigations, the police aim to ascertain details like the target and range of the crime, the reason for choosing the audiovisual room storage as the crime scene, her school life post-reinstatement, and whether the crime was premeditated.
The police intend to proceed with the autopsy of Ha-neul’s body as planned, possibly starting tomorrow. Initially, the bereaved family expressed opposition to the autopsy in the afternoon but later agreed to it.
On the afternoon of the 10th, at an elementary school in Daejeon, a female teacher in her 40s stabbed Kim Ha-neul with a weapon and then attempted to harm herself. Before undergoing surgery for injuries to her neck and wrist, the teacher confessed her crime to the police.
The teacher, who held a regular teaching position, had been on leave due to depression and returned to work last December. The police revealed that the teacher stated, “I got annoyed after three days of returning to work. The vice-principal prevented me from attending classes,” and “When students were leaving the care classroom after class, I thought ‘I don’t care which child it is. I will die together with them.’ I told the last one to come out that I would give them a book, led them to the audiovisual room, strangled them, and stabbed them with a weapon.”
