An 80-year-old woman in Miryang, Gyeongnam, was fatally attacked by a dangerous dog she was keeping in her yard. According to the police and fire department on the 17th, a neighbor reported hearing screams at around 7:30 a.m. the previous day from a house in Naeil-dong, Miryang. The responding fire crew found Ms. A (in her 80s) in the yard of her house, bleeding from the neck and arms, and transported her to a nearby hospital, where she died.
It is known that Ms. A had been keeping three pit bulls brought by her son three years ago in the yard. The police believe that Ms. A was bitten while trying to break up a fight between two of the pit bulls when one of them, agitated, attacked her. This pit bull was euthanized following the incident.
The government introduced a permit system in April of last year, requiring permission from the mayors or governors to keep dangerous dogs. The grace period ends on the 26th of this month. If one keeps a dangerous dog without permission, they face up to a year in prison or a fine of up to 10 million won. It is reported that Ms. A and her family did not have the necessary permits.
The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident with Ms. A’s son and others.
