“On the afternoon of the 3rd, at around 3:58 PM, a collision occurred between a 1-ton truck and a Carnival carrying tourists near an intersection on the entrance road of Seoseong-ro in Namwon-eup, Seogwipo City, Jeju. This accident resulted in 8 casualties, including 4 fatalities among those in the Carnival,” reported News1. A man in his 50s, who caused a large number of casualties due to drowsy driving in Jeju, has been arrested.
The Seogwipo Police Department announced on the 20th that they plan to forward Mr. A (male, in his 50s), arrested on the 17th for violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents (causing death or injury), to the prosecution.
Mr. A is accused of crossing the center line while driving a Carnival near the Sumang Intersection in Namwon-eup, Seogwipo City, on December 3 last year at around 3:58 PM, colliding head-on with an oncoming 1-ton truck.
The accident resulted in the deaths of three women in their 50s and a man in his 70s, who were passengers in the Carnival. The truck driver and a passenger were also transported to a hospital.
It was reported that all the passengers in the Carnival were employees of a travel agency.
The police explained, “Considering the nature of the accident where crossing the center line due to drowsy driving caused significant human casualties, we applied for an arrest warrant.”
