A man in his 40s arrested for breaking into a detached house through the window and stealing items

A man in his 40s who broke into a secluded rural home in the northern Gyeonggi Province and committed theft has been arrested by the police.

According to the Pocheon Police Station, the man, identified as A (44), was apprehended and detained for violating the Act on Special Cases concerning the Punishment of Specific Crimes (theft) on the 16th.

A is suspected of breaking into sparsely populated rural homes in the northern Gyeonggi area between May and June this year. He allegedly entered through unlocked windows or by breaking window frames with a driver and stole cash, jewelry, and other items.

Through on-site investigations and CCTV footage analysis, the police identified and apprehended the suspect, revealing four additional cases of similar crimes. They are also conducting an investigation into the pawn shops where A allegedly sold the stolen jewelry.

Police investigations found that A had surveyed the crime scenes in advance using a friend’s vehicle and parked at a distance before committing the crimes, wearing a mask or hat to conceal his identity.

A police official emphasized the importance of securing one’s home, especially in secluded areas, by locking doors and windows when going out and installing security cameras in visible spots outside the house to deter thieves. They also mentioned plans to enhance crime prevention measures by installing window-type alarms in vulnerable homes and increasing patrols to prevent crimes as much as possible.
