A former employee of Samsung Biologics, who allegedly took internal documents containing national core technology without permission, has been brought to trial.
The Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office Criminal Division 3, led by Chief Prosecutor Jeong Yeong-joo, announced today (29th) that they have indicted a man in his 30s, referred to as Mr. A, without detention, on charges of violating the Act on Special Measures for the Protection and Promotion of National Advanced Strategic Industries and breach of trust.
Mr. A has been accused of leaking 2,800 trade secret blueprints that included national core technology and industrial technology from Samsung Biologics in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, on 15 occasions between July and November 2023.
It was confirmed that he printed design blueprints related to large-scale antibody fermentation and purification technology, concealed them in his clothing, and took them out. Upon discovering this, the company filed a report with the police.
Investigations revealed that Mr. A had also applied to and been accepted by a competitor at the time of the crime.
The prosecution secured emails of Mr. A negotiating salary with the HR manager of the rival company and determined that he leaked the information to gain unlawful benefits.
Furthermore, based on advice from the Prosecutor’s Patent Investigation Advisor, it was confirmed that most of the leaked materials pertained to national core or industrial technology, leading to his indictment.
