A 50-year-old driver died after getting caught between the car door and the vehicle because they failed to put the gear in park (P) while exiting to pay for parking.
According to Dongducheon Police Station today (the 30th), the incident occurred yesterday (the 29th) at around 6:30 PM in Topdong-dong, Dongducheon City, Gyeonggi Province. The driver, identified as A, was found trapped between the car door and the vehicle body. A was transported to the hospital unconscious but was pronounced dead.
It is understood that A was in the process of settling the parking fee without shifting from drive gear when the accident happened. The vehicle moved while A was opening the door to get out, causing it to hit a barrier and closing the door, which resulted in A getting trapped.
The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident based on statements from A’s passenger.
