Not only vehicles but also pedestrians ‘slip’
(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Young-seob, Jang Bo-in, Hong Joon-seok = On the morning of the 14th, accidents due to icy roads occurred frequently all across Seoul as the snow and rain from the previous night froze.
At around 6:07 a.m. on this day, multiple collisions occurred because of icy roads in the Wolgye 2 Underpass on Madil-ro, Nowon-gu, heading from Wolgye Station entrance towards Nokcheonjunggyo.
According to the district office, multiple collisions occurred in four locations on this road, involving a total of 18 vehicles. One man in his 30s complained of back pain and was transported to the hospital.
The district office spread de-icing materials on the roads, and the road that was closed was reopened around 8 a.m.
At around 8 a.m., a 1-ton truck collided with two vehicles on Gukhoe-daero in front of the National Assembly in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, injuring a man in his 50s with minor injuries. During the accident, the truck crashed into the first-floor wall of a nearby building and came to a halt.
Black ice was reported to have been found at the accident site. The police are investigating the exact cause of the accidents.
Additionally, at 8:23 a.m., a four-vehicle collision occurred near Sungi Girls’ High School in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, and at 7:42 a.m., a collision involving three city buses and one tour bus occurred in the bus-only lane in Jingwan-dong, Eunpyeong-gu, but no injuries were reported.
Scenes of pedestrians slipping on sidewalks were also witnessed in various parts of the city.
