'Big Bang's Guenjjogi' T.O.P, Debut 18th Anniversary GD-Taeyang Blocking... What Happened?

Sports Chosun Reporter Baek Ji-eun – What happened to the group Big Bang?

Former Big Bang member T.O.P delved into the past to erase it.

Big Bang celebrated its 18th debut anniversary on the 19th. Fans congratulated Big Bang’s debut, but T.O.P found and blocked accounts of fans who tagged him on Big Bang’s 18th debut anniversary. Fans expressed discomfort as T.O.P blocked accounts of G-Dragon and Taeyang as well.

T.O.P was known as Big Bang’s ‘Guenjjogi’. In 2007, he appeared on a broadcast wearing a Rising Sun Flag outfit, for which YG Entertainment’s CEO Yang Hyun-suk apologized. He also gained attention for various actions such as littering cigarette butts, defacing a SWINGS photo, and more.

In 2017, he was investigated by the police for marijuana smoking during his military duty and later hospitalized for drug overdose. T.O.P was sentenced to 10 months in prison with a 2-year probation and completed his military duty as a public service worker after being forced discharge from the police. He faced controversy for arriving late to work, taking more sick leave than his colleagues, parking in a disabled parking space on his last day of alternative military duty, and purchasing a building with escorts from security guards.

After a series of controversies, T.O.P left Big Bang. Currently, T.O.P has completely removed Big Bang from his profile. His debut date on portal sites is listed as his solo debut instead of Big Bang’s debut, and all records related to Big Bang in music or awards have been deleted.

Fans also showed discomfort with T.O.P’s actions. Some believe that he should not deny the past, as he did not achieve his current position solely through his own efforts but also because of Big Bang’s influence. Many fans who have supported T.O.P for nearly 20 years feel that his actions lack appreciation towards them.

In the midst of this, T.O.P will appear in Netflix’s ‘Squid Game 2’ as an ironic role of a retired idol.

On the other hand, G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung expressed their gratitude to fans through their personal accounts.
