National ownership of 625 geological assets including trilobite fossils, ammonite fossils, and petrified wood

The Cultural Heritage Administration announced today (20th) that it has nationalized 625 geological heritages, including fossilized trilobites, tree fern fossils, and layered ore veins. The Cultural Heritage Administration has been carrying out the “Geological Heritage Sample Inventory Project” since 2020 to protect and systematically manage geological heritages distributed throughout Korea.

So far, a total of 2,963 geological heritages have been nationalized, and the geological heritages that have been nationalized are being managed through designated preservation management institutions. The Cultural Heritage Administration plans to strengthen the preservation and management of geological heritages and support their academic and educational utilization through close cooperation with relevant societies and research institutions.
