[Herald Economy=Reporter Jang Yeon-joo] “Today, the 60th anniversary of Liberation Day, a useless commemoration.”

Singer Na Hoon-a’s statement made during a concert commemorating Liberation Day 19 years ago resurfaced on the 15th, marking the 79th Liberation Day.

Na Hoon-a’s statement was made during the MBC special program ‘Na Hoon-a’s Arisu’ on September 10, 2005, commemorating the 60th anniversary of Korea’s independence. Na Hoon-a, known for revealing his inner thoughts in a kind of impromptu talk after singing his hit song ‘Gong’ at each concert, did the same during the 2-hour performance that day.

If you watch the video of the performance uploaded on YouTube at that time, Na Hoon-a begins his impromptu talk after singing his hit song ‘Gong.’

He says, “At the beginning of this performance, like the ancient King Gwanggaeto the Great or General Yi Sun-sin, I came out riding on words, thinking about our ancestors who bravely defended the motherland, just like our generals who devoted themselves to protecting our country.”

Na Hoon-a then said, “Today is the 60th anniversary of Liberation Day, but it is a useless commemoration. It would have been better if there were no events like Liberation Day.” The audience then erupted in applause.

He emphasized, “I’m talking about how there should have never been a situation where we had to be liberated, where another country would come and rule over our country.”

Na Hoon-a continued, saying, “Rather than saying ‘Never liberate us, it’s bad for other countries to invade our land,’ we need to become stronger so that they never mistakenly think of us as weak.” He added, “What we should never forget is that we must always remember this to the end. We must never forget.”

He went on to say, “As long as there are young people in our Republic of Korea, there is no need to worry. Our young people will never be ruled over like in the old days, as long as our elders are quietly watching over us, healthy and well.” He said, “Our young people will never be subjected to foreign domination if our older brothers, fathers, and grandfathers are there to protect us.

In response to Na Hoon-a’s statement, netizens expressed reactions such as “We need to become strong so that other countries cannot look down on us,” and “He is a true patriot.”

Meanwhile, Na Hoon-a announced his retirement from the music industry in February. He decided to leave the stage he has been performing on for 58 years after concluding a nationwide tour at the end of this year.
