The National Standards Institute of Technology announces the ‘Next Generation Display Standardization Roadmap’. The government will support Korea’s display technology to maintain its competitive edge and establish itself as an international standard. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s National Standards Institute of Technology (hereinafter referred to as the National Standards Institute) unveiled the ‘Next Generation Display Standardization Roadmap’ at the ‘2024 Display Standardization International Forum’ on the 14th. According to the roadmap, international standardization efforts will be made for 8 technologies in 3 areas: organic light-emitting diodes (OLED), inorganic light-emitting diodes (iLED), and components (materials, parts, equipment). Initially, two tasks, including the OLED rollable display deformation measurement method and the iLED color distribution characteristics analysis method, will be proposed for international standards by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) by the end of this year. By next year, 4 tasks, such as the evaluation methods for OLED augmented reality (AR) glasses display optical components, iLED dynamic characteristics, and display panel carbon emissions calculation methods, will be targeted. Additionally, the transparent iLED optical characteristic measurement method and OLED stretchable display optical measurement method will embark on international standardization by 2026 and 2027, respectively. Support will also be provided for the development of national standards (KS) to ensure the reliability of domestic display products, including methods for measuring OLED local luminance and uniformity, as well as iLED tiling display wrinkles and undulations. Oh Kwang-hae, the head of the National Standards Institute’s Standards Policy Division, stated, “The next-generation display field is an important future food for Korea in the era of industrial transformation,” and added, “I will spare no effort to support the implementation of the roadmap so that Korea can continue to demonstrate international standard leadership in the field of display.”
