– On November’s U.S. presidential election, Kamala Harris Vice President, who was nominated as the Democratic presidential candidate, selected Tim Waltz, Governor of Minnesota, as her running mate on the 6th before Donald Trump, former president, and JD Vance, senator, confirmed their candidacies as the Republican presidential and vice-presidential candidates. The duel between Vice President candidates, a white male against a colored female from the extreme ends of the spectrum, who share similar military and modest upbringing but have opposite ideological tendencies, is drawing attention.
– Vice President Harris posted on social media in the morning, “I am proud to have Waltz as my running mate.” and Waltz intimated through social media, “It’s a lifelong honor to join Harris in this campaign. I am all in.” He added, “Vice President Harris is showing us a politics of possibility. It’s reminiscent of the first day of school. Let’s get started. Let’s do this together.” Governor Waltz, who has been serving his second term as governor of Minnesota since 2019, is evaluated as a progressive politician who places priority on pro-labor and pro-citizen policies. After Governor Waltz was nominated as the Democratic vice-presidential candidate, key figures of the Democratic Party, including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapira, Senator Mark Kelly, President Joe Biden, former President Bill Clinton, extended warm welcomes. The Harris Vice Presidential campaign also announced that over $20 million (approximately 27.5 billion won) in donations were raised in half a day after the announcement of the running mate.
– Vice President Harris and Governor Waltz took the stage that afternoon in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a key battleground state, and took aim at former President Trump and Congressman Vance. Vice President Harris stated, “We see a comprehensive assault on the freedoms and rights that Americans have fought hard to secure.” adding, “Team and I have a message for those trying to turn back the clock on our fundamental freedoms and it is that we will not go back.” Governor Waltz, taking aim at former President Trump, said, “He has sown confusion and division and his record as president speaks for itself.” He continued, “He froze in the face of the COVID-19 crisis. He led our economy into a tailspin. And under Trump’s watch, violent crime has increased. This does not even include the crimes he has committed.” He also criticized Congressman Vance, a fellow Midwestern grassroots politician, saying, “JD studied at Yale, received investments from Silicon Valley billionaires, built his career, and wrote a bestseller criticizing the community he was a part of. That’s not the Midwest of America.” and added, “It’s weird.”
– Meanwhile, in the opinion poll results announced by the U.S. public broadcasters NPR and PBS, conducted on 1513 voters and released on that day, Vice President Harris led former President Trump by 51% to 48% within the margin of error (±3.7 points). In the Issues and Insights·TIPP poll released the day before, Vice President Harris (46%) and former President Trump (45%) were neck-and-neck.
