“[Gwangju=Newsis] Reporter Guk Gil-yong = Wando County announced on the 2nd that it has established a medium- to long-term plan for ‘2050 Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth’ to respond to climate change.”

“Wando County recently held a final briefing session after starting the task of establishing the ‘2050 Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth’ plan last year, as the risk of disasters has increased due to the accelerated pace of climate change.”

“According to the medium- to long-term plan for carbon neutrality and green growth, Wando set a goal to reduce greenhouse gases by 709,000 tons by 2030 as its vision is to be a ‘sustainable clean city coexisting with the sea.'”

“They have prepared response plans such as setting reduction goals based on greenhouse gas emission and absorption status and outlook, establishing a greenhouse gas inventory, and developing a medium- to long-term roadmap for greenhouse gas reduction.”

“In addition, they are promoting specific plans such as expanding offshore wind power and solar energy conversion, increasing zero-energy buildings, promoting eco-friendly mobility, realizing smart agriculture and fisheries industries, promoting resource circulation, and creating carbon sinks.”

“Based on this medium- to long-term plan, Wando County plans to implement 32 projects including establishing seaweed ranches and sea forests, and strengthening disaster warning and alert systems.”

“Wando County established a climate change response team in Jeollanam-do for the first time in 2015 and is proactively addressing climate change.”

“Wando County Mayor Shin Woo-cheol emphasized, ‘We are now facing a situation where we are transitioning from responding to climate change to responding to a climate crisis’ and stated, ‘We will focus our administrative efforts on actively protecting the lives and property of our residents.'”
