Writer Song Giwon, who won awards such as the Dongin Literary Award and the Oh Young-soo Literary Award, has passed away at the age of 77.

[서울=뉴시스] The author Song Ki-won, who swept major literary awards including the Dong-in Literary Award, has passed away at the age of 77.

According to his family on the 1st, Song Ki-won passed away on the afternoon of July 31st while receiving treatment in the hospital due to a recent stroke.

Song Ki-won was born in July 1947 in Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do. During high school, his poem ‘Flower Garden’ was selected in a nationwide high school student literary contest sponsored by Korea University. As a high school student, his poem ‘On a Sleepless Night’ was also selected for the Jeonnam Ilbo New Spring Literary Contest.

After enrolling in Seoul Art College, he volunteered to serve in the Vietnam War and was involved in a declaration of martial law and detained for involvement in the ‘Kim Dae-jung Rebellion Conspiracy’ incident.

In 1974, Song Ki-won made his literary debut by winning the short story ‘Fearful’ in the JoongAng Ilbo New Spring Literary Contest and the poem ‘Song of Recovery’ in the Dong-a Ilbo New Spring Literary Contest.

He won awards such as the 2nd Shin Dong-yeop Creation Fund, the 24th Dong-in Literary Award, the 9th Oh Young-soo Literature Award, the 6th Kim Dong-ri Literature Award, and the 11th Daesan Literary Award in the novel category.

His representative works include the short story collections ‘Walking Down the Moon’, ‘Back in Wolmun-ri’, ‘Breath’, and the poetry collection ‘When Your Pain Explodes, When the Poem Shines’.

The funeral hall is set up at Sunbyungwon Funeral Home in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. The funeral procession will take place on the 3rd at 8 a.m., and the burial will be at Sejong Eunha Soo Park.
